When it comes to vacations, sometimes it’s just better to pay one large bill. The best way to do that? An all-inclusive resort, of course. Take it one step further and make sure it’s an adult-only property — you’re golden.
“The number one benefit of an all-inclusive resort is the ‘getting-home-factor’ and not seeing extra charges on the credit card you didn’t account for on your vacation. It happens to the best of us!” Angela Adto Tepper, found of AZA Luxury Travel, told the New York Post. “The benefits of a resort being adults-only is not having to experience an unruly child crying near you as you dine or have kids cannon-balling into the pool right next to you, amongst other things.”
As you’d expect, at an adults-only all-inclusive resort, all activities are geared towards those who are 21+ and the properties tend to be a bit more luxurious.
If you’re looking for some peace and quite but don’t love the price tag of most adults-only all-inclusives, Shaiy Howard, CEO of Travel by Shaiy, recommended a work around. “There are some resorts [that] may not be adults-only but have adults-only areas, which are not bad either as you can save a little on these types of options.”
On the flip side, if budget is top of mind and you’re traveling with a larger group, traditional all-inclusive resorts can be a great option.
“Everyones budgets may not be the same [so] this way guests can pay for their vacation and don’t worry about the cost of meals, drinks, entertainment or anything like that,” Howard said. “[Since] so many all-inclusive resorts have different room levels, guests who are not budget conscious can spring for that oceanfront corner suite while others who are budget conscious can get the run of the house but everyone can come together and enjoy each other.”

1. Triple Creek Ranch in Darby, Montana

“It’s a Relais and Chateaux property with lodges spread across a great vast view of raw wilderness. My clients went horseback-riding, dabbled in archery, painting, yoga, and spa sessions,” Tepper said. “They raved about the wine and cuisine, which was not surprising because of Relais and Chateaux’s focus on great gastronomy and drinks. I’ve [personally] been to all three properties — Tucson, Austin, and Berkshires. This is a favorite amongst travel-goers, not only of the all-inclusive and adults-only (minimum age is 18) factor, but the strong focus on spa, wellness, and fitness programming,” Tepper said.

How much should I spend on an all-inclusive resort?
“I would say $200-$250 per person per night is a good starting point not including airfare. Obviously it can vary but I would not advise paying for something [that seems] ‘too good to be true’ because it probably is and not a quality resort,” said Lauren Doyle, President of The Travel Mechanic.
“There are many factors that come into play with the total price: location, cost of airfare, room categories, amenities, age of the resort, etc. One thing to keep in mind is that when you choose an all-inclusive resort you will have very few costs in destination so you can allocate the full amount of your budget to the initial cost,” Claydon said. “Adults only resorts tend to include more amenities, such as airport transfers, more on-site activities, all brands of spirits, wine and beer, room service and concierge service. The overall value is significantly better than a family resort. There is no need for these resorts to spend money on kid’s clubs, child caregivers and family-friendly activities which allows for more amenities included for adults.”
What to look for when booking an all-inclusive resort
Ahead, Claydon listed some valuable tips to use during your booking process:
- If there are amenities that are extremely important to you, check to see if you can make advanced reservations. Spa appointments, restaurants, excursions, private cabanas — many of these can be booked in advance.
- Look at the different room options before booking. I think booking a room with an ocean view is imperative to having a wonderful Caribbean travel experience, but it really comes down to what room features are most important for each traveller. Some resorts allow you to book specific floors as well as specific views. It’s important to know what to expect, to avoid any disappointment.
- Check out upgrade options, such as a “preferred club” or similar. Sometimes these VIP amenities are amazing and sometimes they are not worth it so do research before you automatically go for it.
- Book private airport transfers. If the transfers are included in your package, double check that they are private and not shared. It can be frustrating to wait for other travelers once you have arrived in destination. A private transfer is more comfortable and more efficient than a shared bus.
Advice for an all-inclusive first-timer
“If you have never gone to an all-inclusive, consider location and star level, I highly recommend nothing less than 4-stars. Also, you don’t want to be limited to anything so always go for the Preferred Club Level at an all-inclusive,” Howard said. “Check the reviews in terms of the service, quality, food, etc. If you drink a certain type of alcohol, check with the resort to ensure they have it or have your travel advisor check. Generally, when you book a Club Level it is more VIP and generally you get top shelf alcohol. You may also get a personal butler and/or concierge service. This is always [nice] when it is your first time.”
Tepper also noted the importance of knowing what type of “experience” you’re getting from a given resort.
“Are they solo-traveler friendly or are they couple focused? Does it have a relaxing vibe or is it party central? Ask the resort what constitutes [‘adults-only’] to them. Every property is different. While the age could be 21 for some, it may be 16 or a different age for another resort,” Tepper said. Also, for an all-inclusive, you should inquire if they are truly an all-inclusive property where all activities are included.”
“It is a great value if you don’t want to think too much on vacation since everything is included,” Doyle said.
